Disraeli and Gladstone essays
Disraeli and Gladstone essays After the middle of the eighteenth century in Great Britain, a group of men beholding the ideas of the new age appeared on political scene. Men who from conviction or the need of votes for their parties were disposed to fulfill some demands for political reform. The two great political leaders who dominated this era were William Ewart Gladstone and Benjamin Disraeli. Their different views helped guide England along the way to a form of Although the notoriety of most British prime ministers is short-lived, both Gladstone and Disraeli have never been forgotten. Disraeli, who began as a Liberal, eventually made his way to leadership in the Conservative (Tory) Party, while Gladstone, beginning as a Conservative, later on became the leader of the Liberal Party (Whigs). Both men were great speakers and parliamentarians, but while Disraeli was good with words, Gladstone was insensitive to the demands of style. The differences between the two men struck a strong feeling of mutual dislike and distrust. Gladstone's career spanned nearly the entire length of the nineteenth century. For more than sixty years he sat in Parliament, and he was four times prime minister. During the early part of his career he moved to the Liberal Party and became the champion of democracy and liberty. Disraeli on the other hand succeeded in lifting himself by intellect and determination to the highest position in England attainable by the effort of man. One of Disraeli's novels, Sybil (1845), was one of the influences which led to the elimination of many of the evils in the factory system. In 1852, Disraeli became the Chancellor of the Exchequer and leader of the House of Commons. He stuck to the ideals of the Conservative party: the maintenance of the Established Church and the aristocracy, the development of the empire, and the elevation of the masses. For some items, consider using their reusable counterparts, like shopping bags and water bottles to reduce your chances of polluting the beach. Plastic bags are especially troublesome, as sea turtles can mistake them for their favorite snack: jellyfish. You can also avoid other single-use items, like balloons during a birthday beach bash, which will likely end up in the ocean where they will be eaten by turtles and other wildlife. This assignment offers an in-depth analysis and examination of my personal and professional aptitudes and talents with the help of a comprehensive approach along with personal manifestation on the ideas discussed in this topic. The paper highlights the essentialities of soft skills of an individual in the working environment along with detailed assessment through the available literatures on self-leadership skills and personal abilities through a 360 degree feedback. This analysis would facilitate me to identify my personal strengths and weaknesses thereby offering the opportunity of any specific changes if required so as to accomplish the personal goals in a more efficient and effective manner. This would enhance my future growth prospects. 2.0 Self-Leadership Skills Literature Overview Amer (2008) focuses highly on the soft sk ills as these are solely responsible for the future growth and the prospects of an individual. It is defined as the feelings and the behaviors that relate to the decisive thinking, problem solving, communication, association and presentation skills that help an individual to sustain in an organization for the long run. Soft skill is a sociological phrase related with the character traits, social elegance, language, personal habits, affability, and buoyancy that portrays the relationships with other individuals (Amer, 2008). Carmeli, Meitar, Weisberg (2006) also highlights that soft skills mainly balance the hard skills which are required for fulfilling occupational demands along with other activities (Carmeli, Meitar, Weisberg, 2006). Hence, it can be avowed that soft skills are responsible for the success of individuals in the workplaces as well as in their careers. According to Rao (2010), soft skills are mainly inherent qualities of an individual which can be improved or enhanced only through high level of devotion, motivation and commitment. Along with this, self awareness also plays an important part for the enhancement of soft skills of an individual. Thus, selfââ¬âawareness helps to predict the internal strengths and weaknesses of an individual which might be beneficial for the augmentation of self-leadership talents. Hence, the self-leadership ability marks the success of an individual in the long run (Rao, 2010). Bommelije (2009) reveals that soft skills are vital characteristics of life which is essential for success. Most imperative and key soft skills that an individual should contain are tactical understanding, proper decision making ability, team behavior, providing inspiration to employees, communication power, intelligent skills, managerial dynamics, coordination, cooperation, enthusiasm to drive a group, implementation of various ideas, elasticity and capability to handle stresses and risks among others. Any historic event before 1877 Research Proposal
Any historic event before 1877 - Research Proposal Example Everybody, at least lost a person during the war, either through death or through separation. For instance, Abraham Lincolnââ¬â¢s brother-in-laws served in the opposing side, the ââ¬Å"Southâ⬠(Butler, Grant & Randall 233). However, the South had more deaths as its war force was small. This put the ââ¬Å"Northâ⬠on an advantageous position and the triumphed over the ââ¬Å"Southâ⬠as slavery was abolished and the infrastructure of the ââ¬Å"Southâ⬠was destroyed (Fletcher 122). The end of the war marked a novel initiative of national unity restoration and guarantying the civil rights of the freed slaves. However, it is disgusting that the contemporary Americans have not embraced the beneficial values, which were the outcome of the war. The social and economic disparities between the South and the North played a key role in stirring the war. The advent of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney, in 1793, made the production of cotton a very profitable business since the machine significantly reduced the time taken to separate the cotton form the seeds. As such, the South turned to the cotton plantation to take advantage of the benefits it brought, something that needed more cheap labor. To the end, the South adopted slavery as the main economic factor. In contravention, the North was industrialized and often bought the raw cotton and turned it into finished goods. Here, people of different classes and races works together as opposed to the south that had an antiquated social culture (Calore 10). These disparities gave rise to the Civil war as the North was for the idea that civil human rights should be spread to everybody and not the majority only, as the South practiced. Severally, the South tried to nullify the constitutio n but their efforts were futile and hence they opted for withdrawal, since they felt that they were not respected anymore (Mountjoy

Illegal war in Kosovo :: essays papers
Illegal war in Kosovo President Clinton addressed the people of the United States on June 10, 1999 over the United Statesââ¬â¢ mission in Kosovo. Kosovo is a province of Serbia, which makes this war a civil war. Highlights of his speech outline the goals that he wanted to obtain in this Humanitarian intervention, as he called it. The mission had flaws innate to it from the beginning. The three-tiered goal of the President was clearly stated. The first is to allow the Kosovar people back into their homes. The second is to require Serbian forces to leave Kosovo. The last thing was to deploy an international security force, with NATO at its core, to protect all the people that troubled the land, Serbians and Albanians alike. The message was clear, but was not followed in regards to international law, and NATOââ¬â¢s Charter, and even the three clearly stated missions. The involvement in Kosovoââ¬â¢s war is illegal, and the President of the United States has pushed NATO into committing wartime cri mes and has used the Powers-of-Office in an unconstitutional manner, which resulted in the illegal intervention of a sovereign state. On March 24, 1999, the united countries of North Atlantic Treaty Organization, under pressure from the United States, launched an illegal assault upon a sovereign nation. The evidence is overwhelming that leaders within the United State government sponsored this decision with the extreme perseverance from President of the United States. NATO should have dismissed the request for assault and involvement for it was clearly illegal. Itââ¬â¢s perpetrators showed total disregard for Article One of the NATO Charter, which incorporates by reference the United Nations Charter, Chapter One, Article Two, Sections Three, Four and Seven. These sections make it clear that NATOââ¬â¢s role is to be purely defensive. The aggression that NATO has undertaken did not come from or with approval of the UN Security Council, which NATOââ¬â¢s Charter clearly states numerous times that the UN Security Council will convene and approve of any such matter or action. It is a brutal violation of NA TOââ¬â¢s Charter and of all principles of international law. NATO used military weapons and tactics that run counter to the demands of decency and the nature of a moral people. Cluster bombs are outright illegal. Geneva Convention has concluded the use of cluster bombs and anti-tank and anti-personnel mines as illegal munitions.
